SEASONAL ART EXHIBITIONS AND SALES AT SANTUARIO WELCOME CENTER

The Bernardo Abeyta Welcome Center of the Santuario de Chimayo was opened in 2011,

for the purpose of creating a museum-like space to provide information about the history

of El Santuario de Chimayo, the Penitente Brotherhood, and their influence by St. Francis

of Assisi. Pilgrims are able to visualize the passion and suffering of Christ through the ex-

hibition of the art of New Mexico santeros and other world renowned artists, and get In-

formation about celebrations and activities at El Santuario.

The Welcome Center currently has a permanent collection of art that is on display, including a suite of

bronze sculptures of the Stations of the Cross by Gib Singleton, and Spanish Colonial traditional art

forms by Master artists like Felix Lopez, Sabinita Lopez Ortiz, Charlie Carillo, Arlene Sena, Irvin Trujillo

and Marco A. Oviedo—(to name a few).

On a seasonal basis, locally made religious art forms are promoted and sold in one area of the Welcome

Center. This exhibition allows artists to show their art and provides an opportunity for local artists to

show their religious-themed art to visitors from a world-wide representation of the public in the setting of

a world renown religious shrine.

A 2026 Spring Art Exhibition will open Sunday, March 1, and go through May 16, 2026. The show will

feature art by Charlie Esquibel, Antoinette Lovato, Ronald Soriano, Doris Montoya and Larry Valdez.

Visitors are welcome to see the exhibit. The Welcome Center is open daily from 10am-4pm.
